It’s About Family, Not Financial Ruin
We all know Thanksgiving Day celebrations are an event! People travel from all over the country to visit their loved ones, the table is full of food, and it’s one of the only times everyone gathers under the same roof—but the holiday’s popularity is exactly why so many people empty their savings. The holidays are about family, not stress, so let’s explore a few ways you can shop with confidence.
1. Plan Your Dishes
It’s easy to get carried away on Thanksgiving, but try not to make every recipe under the sun. Stick with a few basics and plan out the menu. The more you plan, the better an idea you’ll have about what to buy…and what not to buy!
2. Shop Your Pantry First
You never know what’s hiding in your pantry until you look. You never know what’s tucked in the freezer, either. From soup stock to frozen vegetables, you might have everything you need to whip up a tasty dish at home.
3. Buy Store Brands
Don’t let name brands fool you—you don’t need to buy the more expensive version. Sure, some products are a little better when you splurge, but that Kirkland cheesecake is just as good as the bakery's, and you’ll save money in the process.
4. Keep Things Simple
It doesn’t matter if five or fifty people are coming to your house; you can still keep things simple! Work with a few specialty dishes and don’t go overboard with cooking. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also save space in the fridge.
5. Recruit Help
There’s nothing wrong with asking loved ones for a little help. Ask them to bring dessert. Ask them to bring a side dish. Recruit them to bring the wine. However they help out, it’s a big weight off your shoulders and your wallet.
