Online shopping can be wonderfully convenient, but when you don't keep your habits in check, it can also become something dangerous. To make sure you're not browsing without a purpose, here are five simple things you can do to occupy your attention in a more intentional way.

1. Take a Short Walk

Nothing like some fresh air to help clear your mind and give you something else to focus on! Even just ten minutes outside can help interrupt the impulse to keep scrolling through products. You may return feeling calmer and less interested in buying something you didn't need.

2. Tidy One Small Area

Use all of that impatient shopping energy on cleaning instead! Choose a drawer, desk corner, or shelf and give it a quick tidy. This keeps your hands busy and helps you notice what you already own!

3. Make a Cup of Tea or Coffee

Preparing a warm drink gives you something to instead of opening another shopping tab. Sit down and enjoy it without browsing your phone, and by the time you finish, the urge to shop may have become much less potent.

If you really need a strong distraction, you can always rely talking to a friend to help keep your mind off of things. Pick a close friend you can rant about your shopping too, or just someone you enjoy speaking with. You'll enjoy the conversation so much, you'll be reminded that entertainment doesn't always mean spending money.

5. Write a Wish List and Wait

Instead of buying immediately, write the item down on a wish list. Stay strong  and give yourself at least twenty-four hours before deciding whether it's something truly useful, worth the cost, or something you need. This small delay can make your choices feel more thoughtful and less impulsive.
