5 Low-Key Ways To Spend Labour Day This Year

Keep the Long Weekend Easy

Labour Day can feel like the unofficial end of summer, but that doesn’t mean you need to fill every hour with plans. Sometimes the best way to enjoy the extra day off is to keep things simple, and that’s why we’re here to break down a few ways you can say goodbye to the warmer months.

1. Have a Backyard Cookout

You don’t need a huge guest list to enjoy a long weekend! You don’t need an elaborate menu either. few burgers, hot dogs, grilled vegetables, and cold drinks are more than enough for an easy afternoon outside.

2. Spend the Day Near the Water

A nearby beach or river can give you that final taste of summer without turning things into a major trip. Pack a few snacks, bring a book, and settle in somewhere comfortable for a few hours. You can swim if you want, but there’s nothing wrong with lazing in the sun.

3. Take a Slow Walk Somewhere Scenic

Instead of planning an intense hike, there’s no shame in visiting a park or quiet neighborhood where you can wander at your own pace. Labour Day is also a good excuse to get outside without sweating during an intensive workout. Grab a coffee and make the walk more about enjoying the afternoon!

4. Host a Movie Night

If the weather isn’t on your side, staying home can be just as enjoyable as going out. Pick a few favorite movies, order takeout, and pop on your favorite DVD. You can even invite over one or two people who won’t mind spending the evening on the couch!

5. Do Nothing For a While

Honestly, a day off doesn’t have to become another opportunity to be productive. Who said you can’t sleep in? Why not make a late breakfast and ignore your inbox? Labour Day is supposed to be a break from work, so doing less is the best way to spend it.
